Other Village Related Activities

In addition to Religious activity, as Part of social responsibility, the Likeminded villagers both from local as well as outstation are actively engaged in the upliftment of Village in terms of social/livelihood/environmental and educational activities related to village. Some of the projects undertaken in the last two/three years have been narrated as below

  • 1. Pond restoration Project:-

Out of 5 ponds in the village which have been dried up and damaged due to silt and improper maintenance over decades, 3 ponds have been restored to have proper bunds around pond, silt removed, inlet/outlet restored, water harvesting done and also palm seeding around the bund for strengthening of pond. 4th one is under progress. This has not only almost doubled the storage capacity of all ponds but also improved the ground water level improved from approx. 130ft to 30/40ft. so much so this initiative has, given an immense benefit for the village by enabling water source for their daily need, irrigations, cattle rearing as well as other livelihoods.

  • 2. School Renovation Project:

Sri Krishna Middle school of the village is the only school in the village and provides free education to the village children up to eighth standard and is approx. 80+ years old.  During last Gaja Cyclone the school building, furnitures and teaching aides were totally damaged throwing the entire education of approx. 200 + children out of gear. Thanks to support provided by likeminded people and organizations, we have been able to renovate the entire school building and also put back the furnitures and teaching aids in a remarkable period of 7 months , thereby bringing back the hopes of the children for continued education.

Impact: Social/Educational

  •  3. Canal Restoration Project:

The village being in delta area of the water source for irrigation, the village farmers purely depend on canal for water irrigation for agriculture, which is main lively hood for them. Since the canals are in badly damaged/silted conditions with mudslides and vegetation for decades due to improper maintenance, there was hardly any water flow in the canal during season leading to nil/poor agricultural activities. In addition to that due to great obstacles for water flow there was a huge loss of water due to absorption in ground as well as evaporation.

Like minded team, in coordination with village farmers association took the project of restoring the canals which runs to approx. 25 Kms (5 canals) along the agricultural fields, through removal of muds and vegetation and enabled proper pathway for easy of water flow. LIKE MINDED TEAM have been able to complete approx. 60% of the work for reasons of funding, and reaped benefit (though not fully) of easy/loss- free water flow in canal for agriculture of approx. 1300 acres, which is a great boon to approx. 700+ farmers. Also it is considered as a eco-friendly initiative to reduce water loss. It is also proposed to raise more funds through this appeal to likeminded people and complete remaining 40% of work during next season.

  • 4. Solar Pump Project:

As part of village improvement initiative a solar water pump has been installed, near one of the most useful pond in the village, This is to top up water in pond, which has quicker depletion of water ( due to soft nature of sand bed) , during specific period of summer season, making the pond unusable. This Pump, operated with renewable solar energy, will enable pumping of water from the underground to the tank and maintain reasonable level of water for putting the tank for effective use even during summer. Also this pump is envisaged for multipurpose usage of villagers such as community bore for irrigation and also for water supply for specific areas of the village.
